ULAA's Thanksgiving Message

The Perspective
Atlanta, Georgia

November 27, 2003

The Union of Liberians Associations in the Americas, ULAA extends special greetings to all Liberians residing in the Diaspora, as well as friends of Liberia on this occasion of National Thanksgiving.

The Union is exceedingly thankful to the Almighty God for showering his mercy and Grace on Liberia for the relative peace and tranquility that is now prevailing in Liberia. The Union also expresses special thanks to the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, the United Nations, the United States Government, and the international community for their sacrifices and support for the peace process in Liberia.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, the Union deplores the continued violence in Nimba County and other regions of the Country by armed groups who are signatories to the peace accord. Having assumed governmental positions, leaders of the armed groups are under both moral and legal obligations to ensure the total cessation of hostilities. The murder, rape, and displacement of our people cannot go on forever, while leaders and supporters of warring factions enjoyed their plum and gravy in the safety and comfort of Monrovia.

While calling on God’s blessing for the National Transitional Government, the Union also calls on the Government to uphold the basic principles of democracy, good governance, and transparency in the interim process, as a way of building solid foundation for successive governments.

On this day of Thanksgiving, may God continue to bless our common patrimony, promote peace among us as a family, and restore in us joy and happiness.

May each of our days be Blessed with the Happiness that comes from Loving our dreams and following our hearts. May each of our days be Blessed with Peace of finding little ways to slow the pace and quiet the souls in our world. May each of our days be Blessed with contentment that comes from Laughing and Loving and finding new joys in all the old familiar comfort of our lives, and

May today and everyday be blessed with simple, quiet moment of THANKSGIVING.

Issue by the Authority of the National Administration.

Mrs. Roberta P. Davies-Rashid
