In an effort to expand the tourism sector, the continentally acclaimed 2020 Miss Africa beauty the pageant is scheduled to be officially hosted in Liberia on 30 May 2020, the first time such event will be taking place in the country.

Queens from fifty-three (53) African countries are expected to descend on Monrovia in May 2020 to join their Liberian counterpart in competing for the prestigious Miss Africa crown. The contestants will display beauty, cultures, and intellects. The competition is expected to produce a queen, who will be the ultimate winner of the pageant, followed by the "first and second princesses".

The organization of the Miss Africa pageant is a joint effort of the government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism, and the Miss Africa organizing committee headed by its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Lionel Neo Mashishi. The 2020 pageant is geared towards showcasing Liberia's tourism potential, given the prominent historical role of the country on the African continent.

Additionally, the pageant is also intended to exhibit Liberia's rich culture and other under-exploited sectors to those contemplating investing in the country. The government of Liberia will have no funding obligation associated with the hosting of the event.

The 2019 edition of the continent-wide beauty pageant was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, on July 6, 2019. Ms. Felicity May of South Africa was crowned winner, while Ms. Tina Nyunkor of Liberia and Ms. Bezayit of Ethiopia won the positions of 1st and 2nd Princesses of Africa respectively.

The continental competition evaluates overall physical health, confidence, elegance, social awareness, personality, poise and intellect, and it celebrates the extravagant African beauty and culture of the participants.

Founded in 2014 by Lionel Neo Mashishi, the Miss Africa Continental beauty pageant is an annual international event run by ProAct Communications, alongside Miss World, The Universe, and Miss Earth contests. The main objective of Miss Africa pageant is to encourage interaction between African countries on various levels and to become an educational platform and empowering tool for young African women to be inspired.

As preparation for 2020 Miss Africa pageant unfolds, the Department of Tourism at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism has constituted a working team to scout, through a bidding process, a private pageant Management Company that will execute an elegant and internationally recognized event.

Those interested in participating are advised to contact the Department of Tourism at the offices of MICAT on Capitol Hill. Emails and calls are also acceptable by contacting Assistant Minister Princess Turkolon at liberiatourismminister@gmail.com or +231-770-619-099.
