Show me your friend, they say and I will tell you who you are. This cannot be about perception as it were. It is a cogent reflection of reality. Certain attributes can aptly be ascribed to specific organizations or individuals. In most instances, it is not stereotypical. No political party carries heavy weight in the business of gangsterism compared to the ruling CDC. In opposition, they proved clearly that the party is a gangster's paradise. Since its foundation, nearly all recorded Conventions were marred by chaos! What is it that they aren't getting right?
When a government deliberately organizes thugs to descend on peaceful protesters, what else can we expect? When a government blatantly fails to investigate a series of mysterious murders, what would be our best guess? When a government throws a challenge to its citizens to procure CCTV for their own security, what would be the obvious outcome? When a government intentionally doctors autopsy reports as in the case of the late Princess, should we have reasons to trust it? When the faceless leaders of Liberia today loot and deny hospitals essential drugs – do we expect the sick to survive? When a legion of rogues turn the public treasury into a personal 'susu club,' do we think our children will be in school?
Even in opposition, the CDC bore traits of party-incensed banditry! They formed the 'Sabu Unit' as a para-military wing to carry out mayhem. Mulbah Morlu's leaked audio can relate. Morlu disclosed the execution of dastardly instructions from their political leader to cause violence. When things went wrong, their leader would pretend as though he was unaware. This was not an opposition claim. We heard on tape the Chairman of the so-called Mighty CDC. Morlu squarely told Liberians the brain behind all the systemic violence at the behest of the CDC. Such instigation was at no time in the interest of the masses but George Weah's. Surely, he would be on the next available plane for a jolly good time.
Barely two weeks ago, delegates of the opposition Unity Party (UP) converged on the Provincial City of Gbarnga to elect new corps of executives. Amid no official invitation, Chairman Mulbah Morlu of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) was in Central Liberia to spearhead 'Operation Snitch.' Morlu's sole mission was to instigate chaos. He failed miserably! The delegates were unperturbed! They responsibly elected the new leaders without fear of favor. That's precisely what civilized people do.
Diabolically successful at chaotic stratagem in opposition, we can only anticipate the worst with the CDC in charge of state resources. In a country with barely four functional firetrucks, President Weah has stationed two at his private residence. Interestingly, when the UP new Chair called for help, our firefighters were to no avail. Unity Party's Secretary General, Amos Tweh has placed the blame squarely at the doorsteps of the ruling CDC. But the CDC, in a statement released, denied having anything to do with the arson attack. That was anybody's guess!
CDC's Youth League rascal, Jefferson Koijee is on record as threatening to go after critics with 'blood and flesh. If Koijee's open incitement to lawlessness is not enough to suggest the government is at the center of a reign of terror, we don't know what proof anyone would consider black and white. Lest you forget, not even the CDC's political leader acted remorsefully to rebuke such violent provocation.
The arson attack on UP's Chairman's home was in no way an accident! An electrical short circuit is out of the question. What is reassuring is the statement from the former ruling Unity Party's Chairman. Rev. Dr. Luther Tarpeh says he is not intimidated! Indeed, we stand with him. As for the government, no Liberian would dare trust it. They have not proven to be trustworthy. When they masterminded the arson attack on their former secretary general, we took them for granted. They are at it again. We should brace ourselves for more barbaric acts ahead of 2023.
No one is falsely pointing an accusing finger! Those with a track record of mind-framing and staging chaos have unveiled their latest tactics of outright vendetta. A political party that carries violence in its DNA cannot unmask itself of such trappings whatsoever. Not anytime soon.
