The Glorious 52: The Whirlwind Of Brutality Has Not Weakened The Gravitas Of “Massescracy”

After fifty-two years, the conditions that necessitated the establishment of the Vanguard Student Unification Party have not withered away. Instead, they have metastasized, thus creating the condition so imperative that the force with which those conditions were confronted in the zeitgeist of the 70s, just as well metastasize to the apogee of the existing conditions.

Growing out of the womb of a primitive society, where a few were the sole deciders of the course of things thus occasioning the enlightenment which regarded the many as objects to be acted upon rather than subjects to be consulted for the development of the soul society, this understanding that extinct consanguinity out of the formula for nation-building was the incubator of a socially sectarian republic, one that nourished in the mind of the individual that a nation extends not beyond the end of his nose. This could later find its place in every piece of writing that tended to explain the historical evolution of this space and the same would go on to become the reality for the next one-hundred and thirty years after independence. Ceased not, is this tragedy that represents a nation after one-hundred and seventy-five years of existence as a free and independent republic by proclamation.

Dominant was this enlightenment in all facets of this sectarianized social construct, as it is often said that ideas aren’t parentless; the dominant ideas in every epoch of human history have been the ideas of the ruler and not the ruled. As was the case with Christianity after the decline of the all-powerful Roman Empire, a condition that extended an invitation to mystical ideas. The Church, which provided consolation to the many who sought solutions to their endless suffering and a prospect of salvation became the reservoir of ideas that offered hope of salvation and the promise of life after death, this became the established ground upon which Christianity would thrive for scores of centuries. Until the emergence of radical forces that would raise the unfamiliar questions anchored on the survival of the whole of society rather than involving itself with the individual, the republic was plagued with the noxious trifecta of exclusion, exploitation, and annihilation, the ideas of this organized body of men were deemed as an antithesis to that of the ‘Absolute Obedience’ theory as practiced by the ruling elites.  With their presence, a new chapter was proclaimed open, one that ignited the consciousness of the exploited, for the first time the petrified masses began to look reality in the face, this time, unblinkered by any social enigmas or religious dogmas. This class that once accepted without inquisition that its material existence was one decreed by a superior body whose omnipotence was not susceptible to alteration by any force of human making under the colossal illusion that texts which set the standard for morality were its making and unfortunately, its official interpretation, was only meant to be received from those who exploited them, became conscious. With this transition in the faculties of the masses occasioned by the presence of radical progressive forces in the social, political, and economic life of this society, everything was turned on its head, the masses binned the doctored orientation of bargaining for their survival from the system responsible for maintaining and providing for same and began to demand everything that seeks to provide for them a deserving life from the very system which was tobogganing to disaster with its eyes closed.

To understand the cause for this radical shift in people's thinking and actions is to study and understand the ontology of this social entity whose 52nd anniversary we celebrate, the Vanguard Student Unification Party.

For Fifty-two years, the rationale which propels the jostling of beret-wearing militants into the streets of Monrovia every 20th October does not emblemize satisfaction with regards to the status of governance post-October 20, 1970 nor because of the number of years this noble entity has existed; we do so because we must do to honor the sacrifices of men who, in conformity to the Freire’s Concept of Liberation which places the onus of liberation on the oppressed, that is to say, to liberate itself and with the same vigor, the oppressors, deprived themselves of earthly ecstasies in pursuit of dignity, humanity and of happiness for the whole of society to encompass those who inflicted wounds on their souls and debased the Liberian state amid abundant wealth and fertile lands capable of providing for all.

As the Marxian Conception of History posits, the struggle to shift the course of history has been and is one of the class interests; it’s the desire of successive social classes to module society to suit their own material interests. It was premised on this unblemished fact that Marx and Engels began their opening paragraph in what was to become the framework document of the Communist League and at the same time the world’s most influential political document of all ages (The Communist Manifesto, 1848) “The history of all hitherto existing societies is the history of class struggle.” So, for Michael G.S. Dolo, Fredrick Gobawolee, Swanzy Elliott, and all the other innumerable, heroic soldiers, the struggle to wage war against the soulless oligarchy of their era was to preserve sacred their class interests, the same could be said without losing its quality about Wuo Garbe Tappia, Tonia Richardson, Weewee Debah and scores of other massescrats on whose shoulders the Vanguard Party and its militants stand after fifty-two unbroken years chanting the ballad “SUP WILL NEVER DIE” and as well summoning the intestinal fortitude to revolt against all egregious societal vices that threaten life in this space, Liberia.

For the Student Unification Party, the insipidity that pushes the individual to create an intractable desire to live big at the expense of society is indiscriminate, it sees no tribe, no religion, nor does it see creed, with this underpinning, the Vanguard Party has raised men who have mustered the courage akin to a lion in confronting vicious terrors without assessing the religious, ethnical and/or national identity of the various forces that stand against the will of humanity. If it was the True Whig Party and its cabal of apartheid hedonists, the Vanguard Party fielded men who resisted that clique and landed it to its terminal collapse in 1980, not losing sight of the bankrupt People’s Redemption Council and its consignment of functionally illiterate gun-caring men superintendent by a tribalist, the Vanguard stood its grounds and escorted it to its final interment site in 1990, the enumeration would have the same quality and even additional flavor would be needed when a description is to be given to the disposition of the Vanguard Party and its acrobatic militants when one tries to deal with the wreckage that currently presents itself as a symbol of order during this era of decadence and debauchery in the life of a dystopian republic. And so we say: THE WHIRLWIND OF BRUTALITY HAS NOT WEAKENED THE GRAVITAS OF MASSESCRACY.

The Vanguard Party has undertaken unfamiliar and life-threatening initiatives to ensure that a wholesome functioning society is hatched for the last fifty-two years, with meager resources and atomic force heavily complimented by the most powerful weapon: the weapon of ideas, the Vanguard Party has thrived in all its pursuits. We haven’t lost concentration from Marx’s caution that, ideas become a material force when they grip the mind of the masses, every idea in human history first starts as hearsay and it would evolve at a given point to attract the attention of many and would, in the end, become the most dominant idea. We have long struggled to usher in a massescratic state, one founded on the solid grounds of egalitarianism. We have never lost hope in the masses, we believe in the independent will of the people to make independent decisions that border on their survival, we are of the view that the consciousness of the masses can change in a matter of days or hours for it is man’s material existence that determines his consciousness. We must never waver in arming the militants with radical ideas, the republic must be redeemed and redemption is the decision of the masses. Clothed with the task of providing direction when the impending event arises are the militants, and we believe in their resilience, their stoicism, and their intestinal courage to persevere.

After fifty-two years, the BACKBONE of the Party remains the MILITANTS.

The Vanguard Party Will Never Die. SUP Remains Supreme!

Egalitarianism in our lifetime – GLORIOUS 52.
