According to a front-page story published in the Wednesday, February 25th edition of the News Newspaper under the headline: Brumskine”s Advisor resigns-Amidst Criminal Allegations, Cllr. Koffa resignation from the Brumskine camp comes in the wake of his arrest and briefed detention in the United States.
Cllr. Brumskine who described his former legal advisor as a “friend and brother”, asked Cllr Koffa to address himself to the allegations made against him of withholding taxes in the United States. The daily quoted the Presidential hopeful of saying that “my prayer is with Cllr. Koffa and family”.
Wishing his former legal advisor all the best in his future undertaking, the paper said Cllr. Brumskine also indicated that his former legal advisor had been an asset to the national effort for the renewal of the country.
However, other reports gathered in Monrovia alleged that Cllr. Koffa was advised to resign his position as legal advisor and campaign manager to the LUP presidential hopeful since Cllr. Koffa was facing criminal charges in the states. Cllr. Koffa left Monrovia early last week after it was reported on The Perspective website that he was a “wanted man” in the states for alleged fraud.
Update
Cllr. Brumskine's Note:
Monrovia, February 24, 2004: Today, with regrets, I have accepted the resignation of Counselor J. Fonati Koffa, as legal advisor to my campaign. Counselor Koffa has been quite an asset to our national effort for the renewal of our country. I thank him for his efforts.
As much as I regret Counselor Koffa’s departure from the process, it has become necessary for him to take the time to deal with allegations and accusations that have been levied against him.
My prayer is with Counselor Koffa and his family. He has been a friend and brother. I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
Charles Walker Brumskine
