Greensboro (April 22, 2003): A one-day symposium on "African Governance, Philosophical Thought and Rule of Law" opens this Saturday, April 26, at the McNair Auditorium at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro from 9 am to 4:30 pm.

Panelists and participants at the symposium will deliberate on a series of topics geared towards the promotion of good governance and rule of law in Africa, including "The Influence of Religion in African Governance, Social Order & Justice," "The Impact of Colonization on the African System of Government," "The Role of Military Governments in Africa's Quest for National Development," "Non-Partyism As A Tool of African Leadership and Education", "Attributes of Elections and Politics in Traditional African Societies", and "The Role of Women in Agricultural Development in Africa."

Prominent Liberian educator and author, Dr. D. Elwood Dunn of the University of the South in Tennessee, will moderate the symposium, while the panelists include Political Science Professor, Dr. Fuabeh Fonge of NC A&T State University; Political Science Professor, Dr. Victor E. Archibong of Greensboro College; Campus Minister, Dr. Pianapue K. Early of Norfolk State University; Agricultural Economist, Mrs. Mary Mafuyai-Ekanem of NC A&T State University; Political Analyst and Writer, Mr. Tarty Teh, and Publisher Siahyonkron Nyanseor of The Perspective and the Liberian Democratic Future.

Former Liberian Deputy Minister for Local Government, Mr. Joseph M.N. Gbaydu will deliver the keynote address, while Dr. Syrulwa Somah of NC A&T State University will unveil his new book, "Nyanyan Gohn-Manan: History, Migration and Government of the Bassa" at the symposium.

The symposium, jointly sponsored by NC A&T State University and AmeriDream, Inc. of Maryland, in collaboration with Guilford College, Bennett College, Greensboro College and University of North Carolina at Greensboro, is being held under the theme, "Accelerating African Unity, Peace & Progress Through Understanding of Traditional African Government Structures and Practices."
