Liberian Youth Charting a new Course for Africa

The Association of the Liberian Youth in Pennsylvania (ALYP), a non-profit, non- political youth organization that brings together Liberian youths in Pennsylvania, will be hosting a one day Community Empowerment Workshop slated for November 2, 2002. The seminar is under the theme "Charting a new Course for Africa; Liberia, a case study:" - Youth empowerment, National reconciliation, Political stability, Socio-economic & educational needs as the key global players in the 21st century.
The conference is designed to educate the community on various issues surrounding the benefits of community empowerment. It is hoped that this conference will among other objectives, provide a broad view of Africa in contemporary world with specific emphasis on Liberia. The conference will also stress the urgent need to empower Liberian youths and make Liberia an integral part of the 21st century global community. The conference hopes to provide a forum for people interested in Liberia to network with students, business organizations, experts and professionals working both in and outside of Liberia.
The conference will be addressing key topics under three distinct panels: Politics and Good Governance; Community Empowerment/Awareness, National Integration; Privatization & Business Opportunities, etc.
Distinguished professionals of various backgrounds will deliver papers on these various topics listed above. Speakers will include Dr. Al-Hasan Conteh, Mrs. Portia Gray-Kamara, Dr. Edward Wonkeryer, Mr. Saah N’Tow, Dr. James Guseh, Mr. Charles Sunwabe, Jr., Counselor Tianwan Gongloe, and Dr. George Gunpu.
As young Liberians growing up in foreign land, we are determined to do our best to maintain our Liberian cultures and traditions and to utilize the opportunities we have for the reconstruction of Liberia. Youth Empowerment is a priority and we are committed to that. We can’t do this without the involvement of the entire community. It is therefore, our hope that immigrant community in general, especially the Liberians in Pennsylvania, will come out and be a part of this unique workshop that is professionally designed to deliver nothing less than success.
