Barrick and Tanzania Government Muzzling Evidence on Bulyanhulu Murders (Correction)

June 5, 2002

In the 7 May 2002 Online Edition of The Perspective, we incorrectly stated in the last paragraph of article entitled "Barrick and Tanzania Government Muzzling Evidence on Bulyanhulu Murder" (http://www.theperspective.org/bulyanhulu.html and http://allafrica.com/stories/200205080383.html) that: "Amnesty International itself has been denied by Tanzanian authorities from visiting Bulyanhulu to investigate the reports of mass killings of miners since 1997 when it made mention of the case for the first time."

The correct account should have been: "Amnesty International has raised concerns with the Tanzania authorities regarding the reports of killings of miners in Bulyanhulu and has called for an independent inquiry with appropriate powers and the capacity to conduct forensic investigations." We regret the mischaracterization of Tanzania's position regarding this issue. We apologize to both Amnesty International and Tanzanian authorities for any inconvenience this may have caused.
