Dr. George Klay Kieh, Jr. the New Democratic Alternative for Liberia (New Deal Movement) presidential aspirant visits Liberia on December 15, 2003 to participate in the national stabilization process in Liberia. In view of this, Dr. Kieh has reiterated his commitment as contained in a communication to Interim Chairman Charles Gyude Bryant “to offer his services to the interim government in whatever capacity that will help bring peace and stability to Liberia”.
The professor of political science at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia spoke in an interview shortly before his departure to Liberia. He reaffirmed his commitment to the national stabilization process and added, “at his point, Liberians must be concerned about how they can demilitarize the country and provide stability for our people, this is not the time to campaign”.
Dr. Kieh explained that “the achievement of democracy in Liberia is a process that cannot be achieved only by the 2005 national elections in Liberia”. Therefore, “Liberians must work to provide the conditions for a sustainable democracy in Liberia”.
Speaking further, the New Deal’s presidential aspirant explained that his trip to Liberia will afford him the opportunity to meet “opinion leaders” and discuss how best to move the transition process forward.
Dr. Kieh stated, “my trip to Liberia is also a continuation of the process of my transition to Liberia I began last year, which was aborted by the recent senseless war initiated by individuals who use their ethnic grievances to advance their political agenda”.
Dr. Kieh who chairs the New Deal Relief Committee says he will also use the trip to distribute relief materials recently shipped to Liberia by his committee to various displaced centers. “The New Deal Movement is concerned about how it can be of assistance to our people, how can you talk about elections to people that do not have food to eat, clothes to wear and place to live?” the New Deal’s Presidential aspirant asked.
Dr. Kieh is accompanied on the trip by Mr. Chris Jallah an executive committee member of the New Deal’s USA Chapter. They are expected to hold discussions with various party leaders in Liberia and attend several events in and around Monrovia.
