The distinct medal award ceremonies were recently performed by the SRSG Alan Doss at different locations in and out of Monrovia.
At the Monrovia City Hall, Amb. Doss awarded UN peacekeeping medals to 40 Ghanaian police and corrections officers in commendation for their professionalism and dedication to the mission which he observed has demonstrated Ghana’s strong commitment to international peace and security by supporting the United Nations peacekeeping operations in Liberia and elsewhere.
The St. Theresa Catholic Hall in Monrovia also witnessed similar motivation when the Secretary-General’s special Representative decorated the Zambian police contingent deployed in the country, during a pride-filled ceremony aimed at manifesting the contingent’s tireless commitment to duty in the peacekeeping mission in Liberia.
Also in Sinje, Grand Cape Mount County, the Namibian Contingent realized their efforts applied in that bordering county when they received medals from Amb. Doss for tactfully providing to Liberians security protection since their deployment there.
Mr. Doss made specific reference to the dedication of all the decorated
UNMIL peacekeepers during the Liberian elections last year which has ushered
in a democratic government led by Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
He cautioned those honored that the task is not yet over, as such they should
remain dedicated to providing security coverage while President Sirleaf
rebuilds the national security forces in the country.
Meanwhile, Namibian Contingent Commander, Lt. Col. Wellem Tsenaye Akaye, and Zambian Police contingent Commander, Senior Superintendent Robison Moonga said, the honor bestowed on them signified success in the completion of their assigned tasks in a professional manner. Senior Superintendent Moonga in particular, noted that the knowledge acquired by his 26 contingent members in Liberia will be of great value to them back home when they return especially in the discharge of their duties.
UNMIL Force Commander Lt./Gen. Chikadibia Obiakor and his Deputy Maj./Gen. Muhammad Tahir, Police Commissioner Mohammed Alhassan were among dignitaries who graced these ceremonies.
