Computer Labs for Govt. Schools

Speaking to The FORUM recently, Dr. Korto noted that his ministry is working out plans to establish computer laboratories in every senior and junior high school across the country.
The Education Ministry boss also said that many high school graduates and teachers usually find it difficult to go through formal computer education and as such, his ministry is working along side the United Nations Education & Scientific Culture Organization (UNESCO) and other partners in progress to assist the government school teachers and students in this direction.
Dr. Korto also revealed that several schools in some counties have already begun receiving computers for the setting up of those laboratories, adding, “We are in the information age of the global community where Liberia is a part.”
Dr. Korto named Gboveh High School in Bong County, C.H. Dewey High in Bomi, Zwedru Multilateral High in Grand Gedeh and Sanniquellie Central High School in Nimba to be other government high schools targeted.
According to him, plans are underway for the ministry to extend the computer program to other schools that are yet to receive those materials for the project and his ministry will continue to interact with other educational- related organizations abroad to come to the aid of war-ravaged country in the area of quality education.
Commenting on the reported delay by the Ministry of Finance to release May and June salary checks to teachers, Min. Korto said his office has been informed by the Finance Ministry that teachers in the leeward counties have begun receiving their two months salary checks.
When contacted, the Assistant Finance Minister for Debt Management and Expenditure, Aletha Brown, told The FORUM that teachers in Bong and Nimba Counties are presently receiving their two months salary checks.
