The Congress for Democratic Change of football star turned politician, George Weah suffered a set back to their pre-victory march over the weekend when thousands of supporters were denied entry into the Samuel Kanyan Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville.

Our reporter who covered the march said supporters of CDC began gathering as early as 6:30 am on Saturday October 8, 2005 for the pre-victory march . By 9:00 am Weah’s supporters began thronging at the SKD Sports Complex. Unfortunately the rally did not take place as expected.

At the complex, instead supporters of CDC began moving back to their party headquarters in Sinkor to carry on with their pre victory celebration.

Some businesses in Monrovia did not open due to the many marches that took place in Monrovia. It is not clear as to whether those businesses that refused to open did so in fear of the expectation of the huge crowd.

Meanwhile, Cllr. Varney Sherman of COTOL and Walker Brumskine of the Liberty Party have also addressed thousands of their supporters over the week, calling on electorates to elect them respectively so as to move the country forward.
