Etwida Cooper Admonishes UP Partisans

Ms. Cooper who spoke recently during a meeting held with poll workers
of the party in Monrovia encouraged them to do away with the vices that
will bring about split between the literate and illiterate.
According to her, idleness leads to mischievousness which she attributed
to low level of education on the part of the Liberian youths. The youth,
she said, do not have much opportunities to public libraries and telephone
facilities to advance their knowledge as compared to other youths because
most of the infrastructures have been destroyed due to the prolonged war
in the country.
The UP partisan then urged youth to increase the party’s tally in the forthcoming run-off elections by bringing more partisans so as to net majority votes in Montserrado and other counties. According to her each UP partisan must engage partisans of other political parties so as to win them over.
Politics, she said, is interest and this interest has to do with development such as road construction, hospitals, schools etc., which the electorate are yearning for. This, according to her, is in two folds- internal and external.
She said, she believes in internal interest as such, she prefers to even
be part of the development program in her home town, Indiana, Grand Bassa
County, adding that due to the love she has for her mother land, Liberia,
she refused to go abroad despite the invitations from her sisters during
the heat of the civil war.
She described Madam Sirleaf as most respectful, educated and qualified candidate,
saying, “She is a woman who stood for democracy and as such I am asking
other women to promote Mrs. Sirleaf so as not to divide the nation.”
A proxy Up representative elect Dusty Wolokollie, Sneh Johnson, described
the standard bearer as a woman of passion who stands for the right of the
masses.
Mr Johnson said Madam Sirleaf understands what he called “the acceleration
that Liberia needs in terms of economic development.” He urged UP
partisans not to condemn their opponents on the line of education but instead
they must convince voters that in a UP-led government things will be better.
The meeting which was chaired by the UYEP General Coordinator Surgers Houston,
Jr., was attended by other dignitaries including William Kettor, Commissioner
for Real Estate, Ministry of Finance.
