While in Nimba on his campaign trail recently, he reportedly accused the United States of America of supporting Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for the Liberian presidency.
The CDC standard -bearer allegedly told the people of Nimba that Liberians need to fight hard to vote him into power so that the country can benefit from the enormous opportunities he had already negotiated for in Europe.
Mr. Weah, during a recent talk show at the Talking Drum Studio told the moderator John Kollie that his development agenda will include the provision of electricity and road construction. When questioned as to how that will be done, he said he will talk with the French Government to build the hydro and that Italy will take care of transportation and road network.
The reported claims by Mr. Weah would mean shifting Liberia’s alliance to both European countries other than America, the nation’s traditional friend.
Critics and observers of international politics believe that Mr. Weah’s accusation against United States and his claim regarding France and Italy’s willingness to support a CDC- led government when elected may likely have some political implications on the smooth running of a government under his gavel.
One or the critics, Matthews Jones in a chat with The FORUM in Monrovia mid week, said the current buses being offered by the CDC to transport people across the city seems to have come from one of his acclaimed nations willing to do business with him during his presidency.
Mr. Jones also expressed fear that attempts made by any past government of Liberia to narrow down Liberia-America bilateral ties in favor of any country had always proved unhealthy.
He made specific reference to the Charles Taylor regime as a classic example that he noted supposed to serve as a moral lesson for the nation and its people.
