Mr. Mawolo was speaking over the weekend at the party campaign office in Sinkor, Monrovia when he addressed journalists on the outcome of the election.
He said: “We believe that the voice of the people is the voice of God and it must therefore be respected and upheld.”
The UP political officer indicated that the November 8 run-off election
was a culmination of the process that included the first round. He pointed
out that during the first round, the Liberian people conferred upon the
UP the honor of being one of the two parties moving on the second round
of the presidential elections.
According to him, the Unity Party and Mrs. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf pulled
the second highest votes in the first round as this was confirmed by the
National Elections Commission (NEC).
He said when the results were announced by NEC, they in UP, were satisfied with the process by expressing their satisfaction publicly without reservation.
Mr. Mawolo emphasized that again on November 8, the Liberian people spoke loud and clear and the UP and Mrs. Sirleaf are clearly satisfied with the overall conduct of the electoral process, adding, “We are gratified that the process was transparent just as it was before.”
He said the people of Liberia believe in the freeness and fairness of this election process; the people of Liberia believe in the integrity of the NEC; they also believe in the observation and opinion of international observers and they in UP agree with them totally as the power belongs to the people.
The UP political officer expressed thanks to the Liberian people on behalf of the standard-bearer Mrs. Sirleaf for their patriotic duty.
He said in the exercise of such duty, partisans of UP, partisans of the Congress for Democratic Change and every Liberian across the length and breadth of the country have demonstrated their desires to move down the path of democracy, peace, progress and economic development.
Mr. Mawolo pointed out that they at the Unity Party have gotten the message of the people loud and clear, adding, “We will do nothing but to fulfill the people’s wishes and execute their mandates.”
