A US based humanitarian organization, African Charity –Georgia,
is currently here to assess rural Liberia for the kick-off of its projects
aimed at catering to the educational, medical and sanitation needs of war-stricken
Liberians.
According to Mrs. Louise McMillian, head of the organization’s delegation
to Liberia, following the assessment mission, ACG will be constructing schools,
medical centers as well as providing safe-drinking water especially for
rural children and the elderly. The ACG’s executive made the disclosure
recently in Monrovia, when she spoke to a score of journalists about the
purpose of her delegation’s assessment mission in the country.
Mrs. McMillian said, the gesture to provide free school, medical and safe-drinking
water to these two categories of rural dwellers, was her organization’s
honest way of contributing to the development needs of the downtrodden,
orphaned and deprived children of Liberia.
As a true demonstration of ACG’s desire to assist salvage the drained
educational system of Liberia, a delegation is expected here in December
this year, to hold talks with Liberian teachers. “These talks,”
Mrs. McMillian disclosed, “will be centered on identifying the teachers’
problems and subsequently seeking remedies to them, especially following
years of hostilities when every segment- including education was hard hit.”
Prior to the assessment mission to Liberia, the organization has been one
of the charitable bodies catering to the humanitarian needs of war-ravaged
Liberians over the years. For instance, the latest of such gestures was
demonstrated in early this year when the ACG distributed a huge quantity
of shoes to the needy of Nimba.
Meanwhile, Mrs. McMillian is urging all Liberians not to give up, adding,
“All is not lost yet. Let’s learn to forgive and forget about
the past. Liberia has a great future,” she averred.
