Ex-Combatants Threaten to Disrupt Elections

Ex-combatants residing in Totota, Gbarnga and Bong Mines, Bong County are planning to disrupt the October elections if their educational status which forms part of the RR component of the DDRR is not looked into.
Speaking to FORUM in Monrovia recently, the Development Superintendent for Bong County, Joseph Lee Rogers, said presently there exist division and trouble for which that the administration of the county is trying to meet with the authority of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) to see how best they could solve the problem.
He said during the recent consultative meeting in the county, the ex-combatants were angry over the lack of payment of their tuition fees. They said the fact that UNMIL DDRR does not include them at the elementary level denies them of their just benefit as per the CPA.
Mr. Rogers who regretted the situation said that he has been making frantic efforts to see the DDRR authorities to see how best the problem can be solved before it goes off hand.
Meanwhile, residents of Sanoyea District are calling on UNMIL to provide them with seven yellow machines packed at CARI in order for them to be fueled and reconditioned all the damaged roads within Bong County to enable returnees go back to their various towns and villages before elections.
