About 150 persons were made homeless yesterday in the Behwein Community as a result of a heavy storm during a downpour of rain that lasted for some 30 minutes. The storm removed the roofs of 30 homes and uprooted trees within the community that is located behind the Barnersville Housing Estates yesterday.

Although there were no reports of death, properties worth several thousand dollars were damaged during the unfortunate incident.

The community’s development chairman, Mr. Michael Nimely who led journalists to tour some of the damaged homes lamented the plight of affected residents and on whose behalf he appealed for relief assistance.

“Despite the damages done, we are thankful to God that nobody died during the ‘calamity’. The gravity of the rain caused some of us to run for cover just to save our lives”, Mr. Nimely said.
Meanwhile, those made homeless have also appealed to the public especially local and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to come to their aid.

“We need the help of everyone be it rich or poor, UNMIL, the Red Cross and others to help us. As we are in the rainy season. Until then, we have no where to sleep,” Mother Annie Chea, a victim with tears dripping down her cheeks appealed.
