Cap Anamur (German Emergency Doctors), currently running the Bong Mines Hospital has threatened to withdraw her team from the Fuamah District, Bong County.

In a press release issued yesterday, the international non-governmental organization formally informed the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and all other INGO’s that a decision has been taken to stop her projects in the Fuamah District. This means that Cap Anamur will withdraw her team in the next days to Germany.

Giving reasons for their decision, Cap Anamur said in its release, “Cap Anamur has been risking the lives of her members working in Bong Mines Hospital for the past seven months and the continuous absence of UNMIL in the town has made our staff vulnerable to attacks.

“One of such incidents occurred on the 28th April, 2004 in which armed robbers entered the residence of our staff. We reported to all the authorities concerned and brought the team down to Monrovia, hoping for a speedy deployment of UNMIL troops...” the CAP Anamur release added.

“Cap Anamur will only send her medical team to Bong Hospital if there is full deployment of UNMIL in Bong Town. As we await this decision on the part of UNMIL, we will still support the local staff at the hospital. We will also continue our activities in the Monrovia area,” the Cap Anamur release concluded.
