The Concerned Christian Community (CCC), recently distributed rice, mixed
soy blend, salt, underclothes, lappas, and enriched cooking oil to more than
2000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in central Liberia. The beneficiaries
were the IDPs of Salala, Maimu II, and E. J. Yancy camps in Lower Bong County.
The recipients are mainly sexually abused, battered, or otherwise affected
women who are currently benefiting from CCC’s Psychosocial and Skill
Training Programs in targeted camps in the country.
Elated with CCC’s gesture, some of the IDPs rendered songs in praise
of CCC, Church World Service (CWS), Geneva Global, Dorcas Aid as well as United
Nations agencies, among others.
Making the donation, Mrs. Grace Agardo, Administrative Assistant to CCC’s
National Executive Director Mariama Z. Brown, empathized the plight of the
war-affected people, saying that CCC with support from her donors, will continue
to alleviate their plight.
She used the occasion to commend CCC’s donors including Geneva Global,
Dorcas Aid, Church World Service, UN agencies and others.
A team of independent journalists from two radio stations and several newspapers
accompanied the fleet of trucks that carried the relief supplies and witnessed
the distribution exercises which brought together over three thousand internally
displaced persons (IDPs).
Meanwhile, more than 100 beneficiaries of the CCC Psychosocial Services Program
in Maimu II IDP Camp in Totota, Lower Bong County, will receive certificates
of participation this week, having completed basic skill training in various
disciplines following a period of training.
In a related development, the CCC last week, engaged in the distribution of
relief items to hundreds of internally displaced persons at various IDPs camps
outside Monrovia.
Relief items donated to targeted groups by CCC included several bags of rice,
seasoning cubes, salt and medical beds.
IDPs centers that benefited from that gesture were the Jah Tondo, Wilson Corner,
Perry Town, Seigbeh and the SKD displaced centers.
The food items and medical beds were given to CCC by the Christian Aid International.
The distribution exercise, according to CCC, was under the organization’s
war program "War-Affected Women Project", and over two thousand
women and girls benefitted from the distribution.
In separate interviews with the recipients, they expressed gratitude to CCC
for its continuous humanitarian assistance over the years, describing the
organization as a true friend indeed.
"We want to thank CCC for the relief food they have given us. We really
appreciate CCC’s efforts aimed at bringing some relief in these times
of our profound desperation"
