The Civil Society Organizations of Liberia (CSOs) has called on Chairman Gyude Bryant to swiftly withdraw the appointment of Cllr. Frederick Cherue as Board Chairman of the Liberia Petroleum Refinery Corporation and "desist from consistently undermining the spirit and intent of the Accra Agreement."

According to the CSOs, the appointment of Cllr. Fred Cherue who is said to be the unofficial campaign manager of Chairman Bryant’s presidential interest, Cllr. Varney Sherman, is just another deliberate attempt to create unnecessary hurdles in the peace process and therefore further supports the view that Chairman Bryant has planted his confidants in strategy government functionaries to siphon state funds to support his political interest, a release said.

"If Chairman Bryant is sincere about the peace process, the CSOs think it would rather be prudent if he could revert to the statutory and or traditional practice to appoint the Minister of Lands and Mines who has traditionally served as Chairman to that Board", the CSOs noted..

The CSOs say it takes serious exception of Chairman Bryant’s persistent and blatant violation of the CPA which has always provoked controversy amongst the parties and thus culminated to the recent Accra Talks.

In a related development, the CSOs has urged the LURD leadership to resolve the ongoing intra conflict within the organization and warn against any act that will derail the peace process and further devastate the lives of the Liberian people.

The CSOs thanked UNMIL for maintaining security and admonish the mission to remain vigilant and decisively deal with anybody or faction who attempts to pose problem for the peace process in line with its robust mandate.
