The entire membership and the National Executive Committee of the Liberia-China Educational and Cultural Foundation (LICECUF), Inc. has congratulated the Government and great people of the People’s Republic of China, a prominent and active member of the United Nations Security Council for the grant of US$11 million to the Government of Liberia for reconstruction of the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex situated in Paynesville City, and the completion of the upper floors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a press statement issued yesterday, the LICECUF said it views this contribution by the PRC as a significant step in its continued desire to see Liberia restored from the ashes of self-destruction to reclaim her place among the comity of nations.
The LICECUF statement stressed, “such enormous contributions on the part of the great people of China is not a surprise to the Liberian people. Because over the years, China has always identified with Liberia and has made significant contributions to Liberia’s development in the areas of health, culture, science and education.”
Meanwhile, LICECUF said it is an ardent adherent and believes in the one-China policy and supports the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China in their quest for the realization of this objective.
“In the area of sports, China provided a turn-key project for the construction of the modern S.K.D. Sports Complex. This project paved the way for Liberia’s unique contribution to international soccer that eventually led to a son of Liberia winning the World’s Best, Africa’s Best and FIFA’s Best Footballer of the Year titles to name a few.
“Liberia and Liberians stand to greatly benefit from the rich culture and advanced technological knowledge of China,” the LICECUF press statement ended.
