The European Union (EU) through its Monrovia office has provided a consignment of essential pharmaceuticals worth about US$360,000 to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare essential drugs program (EDP).

The consignment of drugs which includes anti malaria, analgesics and antibiotics among other medical supplies, concludes the EU’s emergency supplies donated under the Liberian 8th ACP LBR 002 reintegration program.

The latest consignment comprises of basic essential drugs and medical supplies required for the support of the country’s health care.

The donation which was received by the National Drugs Service (NDS) on behalf of the Health Ministry has come at the time when serious discussions aimed at the resumption of a full scale of the EU’s support to the EDP.

Receiving the drugs on behalf of the EDP, the NDS Managing Director Tommy N. Gulley expressed heartfelt appreciation to the EU family.

Mr. Gulley described the gesture as timely and promised as usual that the drugs would be used for the intended purpose.

It can be recalled that since 1992, EU has been a major donor to the EDP which is a core program of the NDS.

The EU and the NDS are now holding discussions to ensure a sustained drugs delivery service in the country.
