The Liberia Coalition of Human Rights Defenders says it is concerned about
the shoot-out between LURD and government forces at the Paynesville ‘Red-Light’
on October 1, 2003 which resulted to the death of over 15 persons including
un-armed women and children.
The Coalition in a press release said it considers "the planners of such
an evil plan as war criminals, and condemns the planners and their god-fathers,
including their collaborators.
"The Coalition wishes to remind, the government and LURD forces, that
the intentional killing of unarmed civilians during civil crises or war is
crime against humanity. Therefore, the coalition is calling on LURD and the
government forces to come to their senses and halt the intentional killing
of civilians in Liberia.
"The Coalition has sufficient evidence in its possession, which shows
that massacres and the intentional killing of unarmed civilians marked the
Liberia crisis from 1990 up to present, which is a crime against humanity.
"The Coalition is sounding a note of warning to both government and LURD
forces that indictment is hanging over those that engage in the wanton killing
and the destruction of life and property of the Liberian people and foreign
residents.
"The Coalition condemns in its strongest term of the plan of those evil
people who desire is to use chaotic situation to unjustly enrich themselves
at the blood of the poor people", the Coalition a release concluded.
