The Sierra Leonean Ambassador accredited to Liberia, Dr. Patrick James Foyah yesterday donated US$1,000 to the Foyah University Students Association.

Making the donation at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Sinkor, Amb. Foyah said the donation was his initial contribution to the Foyah students in a bid to defray some of the cost associated with their academic sojourn including tuition.

The US$1,000 donation was in fulfilment of a pledge made by the Sierra Leonean Ambassador to the Foyah University Association when he was approached for a financial assistance. It was also the manifestation of the West African diplomat’s belief in sound education and his quest to see students from the Foyah District of Lofa County go through their education sojourn without any financial difficulty.
Speaking further, Amb. Foyah said his embassy is interested in helping students from the 15 political sub-divisions of the country, but added that he first decided to start with the district where he has some family links.

The Sierra Leonean Ambassador cautioned the students to make good use of the money by excelling in their academic lessons, while expressing regrets over the difficult learning conditions Liberian students find themselves.

Receiving the amount, the Chairman of the Foyah University Association, Sylvester T. Nyumah expressed profound thanks and appreciation to the Sierra Leonean Ambassador and his staff, and promised to use the funds for its intended purpose.

The students also lauded Ambassador Foyah for his advocacy for the restoration of total peace in Liberia, yea the subregion, adding "we appreciate your advocacy for peace in our country. You have been in the vanguard for peace and respect for human dignity. If we could get the opportunity to meet President Tejan Kabbah, we would appeal to him for you to remain in Liberia until the time comes for your retirement from the Ambassadorial job. We highly appreciate your fine work in Liberia".

The Foyah Students Association also informed Dr. Foyah that the money will be distributed among the 104 students of the association from various universities in Liberia.

Also adding his voice to the students in expressing thanks and appreciation to the Ambassador was Rev. Jasper Ndadorlor who described Dr. Foyah’s gesture as very remarkable, adding "the ties between Liberia and Sierra Leone will never be broken because we are twin sisters, we have inter-marriages and tradition in comer."

Rev. Ndaborlor also commended President Kabbah for his peace initiatives taken for the restoration of total peace in the sub-region.
