The Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy (LURD), has made additional
nominations to fill its slots in the National Transitional Government of Liberia(NTGL),
in accordance with the comprehensive Accra peace accord.
LURD Chairman Sekou Damate Conneh, who last evening said his nominees will
today begin taking up their respective posts in the government, named 15 persons
for the Ministries and Public Corporations allotted to his organization.
Among those named are; Jackson E. Doe, Minister of State; Ansumana Kwesiah,
Deputy Minister of Public Works; Edward Farley, Director of GSA; Isaac Nyenabo,
Vice Governor, Central Bank of Liberia; Zoe Pennoey, Deputy Managing Director,
Liberia Petroleum Refinery Corporation (LPRC), and Mustafa Kamara, Deputy
Minister of Commerce.
Others nominated are, Soko V. Sackor, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs,
Joe Wylie, Deputy Minister for Administration, Ministry of Defense; A. Seyeh
Sheriff, Chief of Staff, Armed Forces of Liberia; A. Vamuyan Corneh, Assistant
Minister for Revenue, Ministry of Finance; Isaiah Tee Saley, Managing Director,
LPMC; Roosevelt Quiah, Chairman, National Investment Commission (NIC); Joe
Gballah, Managing Director, Liberia Telecommunications Corporation and Chayee
Z. Doe, Managing Director, NPA.
Mr. Conneh said it is the desire of his organization for the NTGL to begin
active work. He also called for the speedy elections of the Speaker and deputy
Speaker of the NTLA in order for them to begin screening the executive nominees,
adding, "this peace process should not be delayed but must move forward."
On the nullification of county nominees to the NTGL, Mr. Conneh said elections
should be held in the counties and not in Monrovia, so as to reflect broad-base
participation of the people of the various political subdivisions. He then
wondered, "how can you say the place is not safe and you want to represent
the very people in those areas you declared unsafe".
Mr. Conneh has expressed delight that forces of LURD can come to central Monrovia
and move freely without molestation adding, "that was what they were
deprived of in the past."
Meanwhile, the LURD boss said he will by this afternoon complete the nomination
process.
Mr. Conneh recently nominated Cllr. Kabineh Janneh as Justice Minister; Lusine
Kamara as Finance Minister, and Cllr. Lavela Supuwood as Minister of Labor.
