A 27-man Muslim delegation from the National Muslim Counicl of Liberia(NMCL) is due to leave the country shortly on a peace mission to Guinea and Sierra Leone.

According to the speaker of the NMCL, Senator Mohammed Dukuly said their trip to the two countries is intended to prevail on President Lansana Conteh and President Ahmed Tejan Kabbah of Guinea and Sierra Leone respectively, to call on the LURD rebels to end the war and suffering on the Liberian people.

Sen. Dukuly said he believes the intervention of the two leaders to put an end to the conflict in the country would bring relief to the sub-region as well as the Mano River Union which comprises the three countries.

The NMCL official reiterated that they are not accusing either of the two countries for the war in Liberia, but would only ask them being the other leaders in the MRU region to help restore peace to our people.

He noted that though funds to facilitate the peace mission would come from the Muslim Community, bulk will be provided by the Liberian leader, President Charles Taylor, who is eager to see the return of peace in Liberia and the sub-region, at large.

Meanwhile, a consultative meeting of the NMCL which was held on Tuesday, brought together the NMCL executives, Imam Council, elders and the Muslims Community of Liberia.

Some prominent muslims including Bomi County Senator Mohammed Dukuly, Montserrado County Representative Morris Nyei, Chief Imam of Liberia, Alhaji Kandakai Sheriff, the acting Chairman of the National Muslim Council Alhaji Sheriff and the Iman of the National Repentant Muslim of Liberia, Mohammed Passewe among others were also in attendance.
