The Press Union of Liberia (PUL), in collaboration with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), will today, June 7 begin a month-long series of workshops under the theme “Empowering Liberian Media for Sustainable Peace.”

The workshops will be held at the headquarters of the PUL on Clay Street, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

The first phase of the series will be a week-long basic skills workshop, aimed at providing basic skills for beginner journalists, in order to enable them carry out their tasks properly.

The workshop will make use of UNMIL’ international media consultant, Dr. Abiodun Onadipe, and a cream of Liberian media professionals, including University of Liberia’s Mass Communication Professor Joe Mulbah, Radio Veritas’ Frank Sainworla, Talking Drum Studio’s Elizabeth Hoff, Catholic Justice and Peace Commission Assistant Director Onesimus Barwon and University of Liberia’s English Instructor Kpangbayeazee Duworku.

The workshop will take into consideration the nuts and bolts of journalism like ethics, responsibilities, critiquing, interviewing techniques, among others.

The next phases of the workshop will consider reporters with three or more years of experience, line editors and proprietors.
