Liberian Women Hold Peace Festival In Monrovia

Liberian Women under the auspices of the Women in Peace Building Network (WIPNET) will this Saturday (May 3) host a peace festival and rally on the Airfield, opposite the Fish Market in Sinkor. The ceremony which begins at 10:00a.m. is expected to bring together hundreds of citizens including foreign residents, religious and opinion leaders and foreign partners in progress, a release said. Liberian musical artists in a live stage performance will be singing peace songs and messages.
According to a release quoting WIPNET’s Country Coordinator, Leymah Gbowee, the mass peace rally is in continuation of the non-violent peace action
undertaken by the women two weeks ago. Ms. Gbowee said funds generated from the rally will be used to foster the peace initiative under taken by the women.
She also disclosed in the release that the organizing committee will shortly dispatch a high-level women delegation to Guinea and the Ivory Coast, where they are expected to hold talks with Guinean and Ivorian senior government officials and the leadership of thebelligerent forces in those countries in a bid to finding an end to the crisis.
